Positive Pelvic Health

Learn more about Jennifer and her pelvic health physiotherapy practice.

Kia ora, I’m Jennifer, a holistic pelvic health physiotherapist based in Lower Hutt.

Prior to establishing Positive Pelvic Health, I worked for a decade with Proactive at Les Mills Hutt City and Netball Hutt Valley. This gave me strong foundational knowledge and extensive experience working with female athletes and sports people of difference ages, backgrounds, ethnicities and disciplines. I have also invested a large proportion of my career to helping people with persistent or chronic pain conditions, alongside completing postgraduate study in the area. This is where I harnessed my point of difference as a practitioner by developing my ability to see and treat the whole person, at whatever point they are at on their health journey.

My passion for pelvic health physiotherapy is clearly apparent from the moment a woman talks to me on the phone or walks into my clinic. If you feel you may benefit from an assessment or want to learn more about how pelvic health physiotherapy can help you, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I guarantee I will respond promptly and personally to your query.

This has thoroughly enhanced my ability to see and treat the whole person at any age or stage of their health journey.

Since starting Positive Pelvic Health in 2018, I have worked at Wakefield Hospital, Bouclott Specialist Centre and Hutt Hospital. This has provided me with extensive senior physiotherapy experience and helped me to establish working relationships with multiple local healthcare professionals.

During my own motherhood journey, I became a La Leche League leader and was involved in providing voluntary breastfeeding support to women in the Hutt Valley. This led to me facilitating breastfeeding ante-natal classes at Vibe and Hutt Hospital, as well as organising annual ‘Big Latch On’ events. As a pelvic health physiotherapist, I see many postnatal women on a weekly basis. I can therefore help guide women to appropriate support services in the Wellington region, whether they are breastfeeding, mixed feeding or formula feeding.

I now run an in-home pelvic health physiotherapy clinic, which enables me to provide professional care to women in the Greater Wellington region, whilst meeting the needs of my young family.

A holistic approach to pelvic health physiotherapy

A physical assessment usually takes place, which can, but does not always, involve a vaginal examination and helps confirm a diagnosis for the symptoms. By considering multiple aspects of a woman’s life, including her pelvic health, diet, fluid intake, sleep, exercise and stress, it allows a holistic treatment plan to be developed, using a comprehensive, evidence-based approach.

My point of difference as a pelvic health physiotherapist is my ability to relate to women, understand what is happening for them and provide easy to implement solutions and treatment strategies. It is simply not enough to provide a ‘one fits all’ pelvic floor exercise or kegels programme to every woman, since health is multifaceted and an open-minded, holistic approach is therefore essential for positive change to occur.
